The world is full of many great guitarists but here I have listed some of the most interesting women who lead the Rock n Roll scene by storm and those who still are.
Though Joan Jett is my all time favourite female guitarist, these women are still super amazing.
Norma-Jean-Wofford was one of the very first women in rock n roll, Norma Jean-Wofford got the nickname “The Duchess” from the one and only Bo Diddley. Being the second rhythm guitarist for Bo Diddley she first appeared with Bo Diddley and company in 1962.
She was taught how to play by Bo how to play the guitar, Norman Jean Wofford was only a part of Bo Diddley and Company for four years no matter the length of her time in Bo Diddley and company her impact has been large.
Her signature orange curly locks starting off with the clear plexiglass Dan Armstrong guitar which still amazes me to this day then mainly uses a Gretsch, co-writing her band ‘the cramps’ songs with the lead singer and her late husband lux interior.
Poison Ivy has a bold stage presence like no other, leading the way in a male dominated industry and all she can do is just sling on her Gretsch and shred like the true rocker she is, she embodies a cool powerful being.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
The godmother of rock n roll was born in 1915, she began the life of a rock n roller at a very young age, performing with her mother, being one of the first gospel performers that performed at both churches and secular clubs.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe guitar playing influenced players like Chuck Berry and Elvis, sister Rosetta Tharpe music style is true to rock n roll blues played on her infamous Gibson Custom Shop SG Custom Reissue VOS.
Lita ford started in The Runaways when she was just 16 years old shredding in a band and touring the world, totally awesome and breaking the barrier of women in rock n roll along with Joan Jett, Sandy West and Jackie Fox the made large impacts on people’s music careers and pave the wave for girls and women to come.
When the Runaways broke up Lita Ford launched off into her solo career taking a liking to metal ever since she was in The Runways she took part of the iconic hair metal scene.
